Art Savage 2008 Humanitarian of the Year

Every year UCP of Greater Sacramento honors a member of the community who has shown a passion for making a difference in the lives of others. Art Savage, best known as the man who brought The River Cats to Sacramento, has helped to transform this community. In addition to bringing the River Cats to Sacramento Art was the major force behind the building of Independence Field, a fully-accessible baseball field.

For the 3rd year in a row, Sam Shane and Pallas Hupe of CBS13 hosted the event which was attended by more than 550 community members including Sacramento Mayor Heather Fargo, West Sacramento Mayor Christopher Cabaldon, and the members of the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors.

This year, in addition to featuring another beautiful piece of artwork by 10 year-old Saddle Pals and Respite client Celeste Hewitt, Jenny Fenton spoke of her son, Justin (who stood proudly beside her) and the difference Saddle Pals has made in both of their lives.

This year’s dinner not only celebrated the wonderful accomplishments of Art Savage but also raised more than $180,000 through table sponsorships, pledges, and a successful silent auction, which will go directly to support the more than 1700 clients served by United Cerebral Palsy every month.
