The UCP Tailored Day Program offers skill-building and unique goal-directed instruction in a client’s home or community environment. The DSP is not a personal caregiver; but a coach and teacher for the client, enabling them to reach their personalized goals. Many of the goals tailored for the client are in communication and language development, community integration activities, functional academics, self-advocacy, technology, vocational and volunteer opportunities. The DSP must be able to follow the ISP goals and objectives (developed in tandem with the regional center) and document the client’s progress, as well as write a monthly summary. The DSP works one on one with the client, approximately 2 hours a session, with a maximum of 8 hours in a week. Multiple clients may be assigned to the case load.
- Driver’s License & proof of Insurance with reliable transportation
- Able to fluently speak, read and write English
- Basic math skills needed, i.e. addition, subtraction, division
- Dependable, good listener, patient, ability to focus on goals and objectives, and believe in the ability of each individual to succeed
- Good communicator, flexible, self-motivated, a problem-solver
- Ability to create a comfortable but stimulating environment
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision but as directed by Program Manager.
PROGRAM: Tailored Day Program – Discovering Options
MANAGER: Loie Rhodes
WAGE: $12.00 per hour plus mileage and paid driving time from day program to clients home.
SCHEDULE: This position is compatible with existing DSP schedules. DSP’s encouraged to apply for additional hours, up to 40 per week.
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Current driver’s license
Current CPR certification
Current First Aid certification
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed by uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
